Look what we made this week!
HANNAH MCSHEA, the rising-10th grade winner of our “Alice” musical poster design contest and designer of all our “Alice” set backdrops, joined us for three mornings. She showed the actors how to prime canvas for painting and design a 4-panel folding screen picture to make the audience feel as if they are in snowy woods beside a small town soft-pretzel restaurant. She sketched out her director approved final design on the 4 – 2’x 6′ primed-canvas panels. Then, gave the young actors instructions on where to place the colors she had mixed, and let them all become scenic artists.
Our showcase production will be the play “SNOW ANGEL” by David Lindsay-Abaire (Google him, as one camper did, and you’ll discover that he also wrote the script for “Shrek, the musical.”) Ours is a 75-minute play about a group of teenagers who get a snow-day off from school and have (or do they?) close encounters with a ghost. The show is free and open to the public at 7:00 pm on Friday, July 8th & Saturday, July 9th. Park on the Gregson Street side of Trinity Presbyterian Church at the corner of Gregson Street & Trinity Ave. (near Brightleaf Square in Durham) and enter at the door beside the playground. Follow the signs to the 2nd floor fellowship hall. You’re welcome to join the creativity.
